Organic vs. Optimised Search
Organic Search is a simple and effective solution for many websites.
- Your website is designed, structured and written to be search engine friendly. It should contain rich, relevant content with plenty of links.
- Meta Tags are carefully written and added to the site code.
- Your URL is then manually submitted to the leading national and global search engines and directories.
This is very effective for specific searches:
- Brand or Product searches e.g. "cellplex perfusion". If you are looking for the New Zealand supplier of this medical equipment, you will find www.obex.co.nz
- Company searches e.g. "enzed" or "hire a hubby". Someone who knows of your company and simply wants to find out more will find www.parkerenzed.co.nz and www.hireahubby.co.nz with ease.
Organic search can be effective for broader searches too. Terms like "storage hamilton", "installation software nz", "handyman franchise nz" and "nz hydraulic hose" yield these sites effectively.
Optimised Search
How do you get a top ranking if you:
- Are in a commodity market (online CD sales)
- Deal with people who will not recognize your brand (Auckland hotel, rental car company or online retailer)
- Are in a competitive market (nz tourist attraction)
This is where Organic Search may have its limit. There are thousands of competing online retailers, hotels, rental car firms and tourist attractions. Your brand and company name will mean little or nothing to a German who is planning a trip to New Zealand. While there are only a handful of self storage firms in Hamilton, there are over 100 hotels in Auckland.
To make matters worse, there are thousands of sites offering to find accommodation in Auckland (Although most of these are inaccurate and can only offer rooms in America! Cheaphotels4u.com etc). The chances of your site making the critical Top 30 for "auckland hotel" are remote.
