The Challenge

Mainfreight is regarded as one of New Zealand’s most innovative employer marketers.

The business is renowned for its focus on people, culture and philosophy. With rapid international expansion however, the challenge was to retain and communicate the unique character, values and aspirations to both existing and potential team members worldwide. A tall order with a team of 7,000 people across 20 countries speaking dozens of languages!


The Solution

With a network growing across Australia, Asia, The Americas and Europe, Mainfreight’s strategy was to create a standalone people and culture site which would enable them to tell a singular, cohesive employment story, consistently and compellingly around the world. Mainfreight’s corporate site is strongly focused on customers and investors, so the new recruitment site would provide insights into what sets Mainfreight apart as an employer, showing career and development opportunities, and vacant positions.

Our team of strategic, creative, technical, and employer branding specialists worked closely with Mainfreight to scope and create a complete solution which:

  • Delivers a strong and authentic employment brand, consistently around the world.
  • Recognises the user’s location and provides a localised version of the site with relevant job listings, people profiles and photography.
  • Gives candidates a real insight into the business’ true character and people philosophy.
  • Allows administrators in individual regions to manage job listings and selected local content autonomously via regionally-controlled CMS logins.
  • Because personal fit is vital to preserving and growing the Mainfreight culture, the site also invites potential candidates to talk directly to one of seven team members in their region. This gives candidates the opportunity to find out first-hand whether the business is the right fit for them, while also giving Mainfreight the opportunity to ‘informally’ screen and identify candidates with potential. Regional versions of the site are now live across New Zealand, Australia, Asia, The Americas and Europe and are now being translated into Asian and European languages.
